One token, many separate balances
Tether issues USDT on a list of blockchains it publishes itself, and that list changes: issuance and redemption on Omni, Bitcoin Cash SLP, Kusama, EOS and Algorand have been discontinued (Tether). Holdings on each supported network are separate. No operation converts USDT on one network into USDT on another — a bridge or an exchange moves it, and that move is what costs money.
The network sets the price, not the amount
An exchange withdrawal fee for USDT is a flat charge per network, so the cheaper network is usually the answer for small transfers, while for large ones the difference between networks matters less than which route you use. The table above lists the published fee and minimum per exchange and network, each with the date it was checked; exchanges can change them without notice.
Receiving addresses are not interchangeable
TRON addresses are Base58 strings beginning with T, and a new TRON account has to be activated before it
can hold assets (TRON Protocol documentation). Ethereum, BNB Smart
Chain and other EVM networks share one hex format, so a single address can exist on all of them while the
funds only ever land on the network the sender chose. On TON, a service credits a deposit either by the address it
issued to you or by data attached to the transfer itself
(TON documentation) — which is why an exchange there
can ask for a second field beside the address, and why a transfer sent without it has to be matched by hand.
Bridge or exchange
Moving USDT through an exchange means two steps and two sets of rules: a deposit that has to be credited, and a withdrawal with its own fee and minimum. A bridge is one transaction, priced by the route. Both are above, and the exchange row stays visible even when it is the cheaper one.
Questions
What is TRC-20 USDT?
USDT on the TRON network. TRC-20 is TRON's token standard, so the label names the network rather than a different coin. The same USDT on Ethereum is called ERC-20 and on BNB Smart Chain BEP-20, with separate balances on each.
How do I withdraw USDT from an exchange?
On the withdrawal screen you choose a network before the address. That choice sets the fee, and the fee is charged per withdrawal rather than as a percentage, so it matters far more for a small transfer than a large one. The published fees per network are in the table above.
Which wallets support TRC-20 USDT?
Any wallet that supports the TRON network — the question is the network, not the token. A wallet holding USDT on other networks will not show a TRON balance, and a TRON address that has never been used has to be activated before it can hold anything.
Can I send USDT to an ETH address?
Only if the transfer itself travels over Ethereum. EVM networks share one address format, so the same address exists on several of them; what decides where the money lands is the network selected when sending.
How do I add USDT TRC-20 to a wallet?
Add the TRON network in the wallet first, then the token if it is not detected automatically. A balance that appears to be missing is usually on a different network under an address that looks the same.
How do I send USDT between networks?
Either bridge it, or move it through an exchange: deposit on one network and withdraw on another. Both routes are on this page, with the bridge quotes updated live and the exchange fees carrying the date we checked them.
