The wait is the product
A standard withdrawal from Base to Ethereum has to sit through a challenge period of seven days before it can be finalised, and the documentation is explicit that some bridge providers offer faster withdrawals by using liquidity, relayers or market makers to pay users before the standard withdrawal completes (Base documentation). Every quote above is that kind of service. The fee you are comparing is, in effect, the price of not waiting.
What that means for the numbers
Providers that carry a seven-day position charge for it, and they charge differently depending on how much liquidity they have on each side at that moment. That is why quotes on this route spread wider than on the way in, and why the cheapest provider is not the same one every day. The comparison is a snapshot, taken when you loaded the page.
The slow route is still a route
Using Base’s own bridge costs no provider fee at all. It costs seven days and a claim transaction on Ethereum, which has its own gas. For a transfer you do not need this week, that trade is worth checking against the numbers above rather than assuming either way.
Or move it through an exchange
Depositing from Base to an exchange and withdrawing on Ethereum is a third path, with its own fee and its own delay. Where we have current withdrawal fees, that row sits beside the bridges — including when it is the cheaper one.
Questions
How long does it take to bridge from Base to Ethereum?
Through the official bridge, a standard withdrawal must wait seven days before it can be finalised. The providers quoted above do not use it; each publishes its own estimate in the Time column, usually measured in minutes.
Why is bridging out of Base more expensive than bridging in?
Because you are paying somebody to carry the waiting period for you. A provider that pays you on Ethereum immediately has to fund that from its own liquidity and waits out the withdrawal itself.
Can I use the official Base bridge instead?
Yes, and if you are not in a hurry it avoids a provider fee entirely — at the cost of the seven-day wait and a second transaction on Ethereum to claim the funds. The comparison above is for the fast route.
How much does it cost to bridge crypto between networks?
It depends on the direction as much as the pair. The fee column shows everything lost between sending and receiving; gas on Base is listed separately because it is paid in ETH on top.
