The official route ends with a manual step
Withdrawing through the PoS bridge burns the tokens on Polygon; they are released on Ethereum only once a checkpoint covering that transaction has been submitted and an exit claimed against the root contract (Polygon documentation). Two transactions, one wait, and a claim nobody makes for you. Every quote above replaces that with a single transfer paid out of the provider’s own liquidity on Ethereum.
Send the right USDC
Native USDC on Polygon is issued by Circle; bridged USDC.e came from Ethereum and is not (Circle). A wallet can hold both under near-identical names, and a provider quoting one will not accept the other. The routes here use native USDC.
Fees at each end
Polygon charges its transaction fees in POL, the token that replaced MATIC (Polygon documentation); Ethereum charges in ETH. The gas column above covers only the Polygon side. What you will pay to use the funds on Ethereum afterwards is separate and usually larger.
The exchange route
Depositing from Polygon and withdrawing on Ethereum avoids both the checkpoint and the bridge fee, at the cost of two exchange operations. Where we have a checked withdrawal fee, that row is beside the bridges, including when it is lower.
Questions
How long does a Polygon withdrawal take?
Through the official PoS bridge, the tokens are burned on Polygon and released on Ethereum only after a checkpoint of that transaction reaches Ethereum and an exit is claimed. The providers above do not use that path; each publishes its own estimate in the Time column.
Which USDC am I sending?
Check before you start. Circle issues native USDC on Polygon, while the older bridged USDC.e is a separate token it does not issue. The quotes here are for native USDC.
Do I need POL to send?
Yes. Polygon charges transaction fees in POL, the token that replaced MATIC, so the sending wallet needs some regardless of which provider you use.
What do I need on Ethereum?
ETH for whatever you do next. The fee above covers delivery of the token; your following transaction is yours to pay for.
